Women's Volleyball Comeback Fell Short In Season Opener

Phoenixville, Pa. – Trailing 0-2 with identical scores (23-25, 23-25) after the second set, Bryn Athyn College rallied a comeback in the third and fourth frames, 25-8, 25-12, which eventually came to a decisive fifth set. The back and forth battle finished on Valley Forge University's side, as the Lions error earn the Patriots a 15-13 set and match victory in tonight's season opener.

Bryn Athyn College  was determined to climb back into the competition against Valley Forge University after down 0-2. The Lions dominated the third set which included errors on the Patriots side and a 14 point run after a 10-4 lead, to put the set within one point, 24-4. The home team attempted a come back with four straight points, but the Lions ended their effort on a kill by sophomore outside hitter Amber Wood (Warminster, Pa.) for a 25-8 victory.

The fourth set was on cruise control for Bryn Athyn College after an 8-8 tie. The 17-4 run was favored to Lions, as the contest was tied at 2-2 apiece. It was the fifth set that the Patriots eventually found a way to escape the Lions' wrath and finished the contest with a 15-11 victory.

Despite the comeback rally, the Lions set game high totals in major categories as senior middle hitter Taylor Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.) had game highs 20 kills and seven blocks while senior setter Catherine Kirk earned 26 assists. Sophomore libero Sam Hicks (Philadelphia, Pa.) paced the defense with 24 digs.

The Lions welcome Rosemont College on Saturday, September 3, for a 1:00 p.m. nonconference doubleheader match.
