Women's Volleyball Sweep Ravens in Two Matinee Matches

Bryn Athyn, Pa. – With the first victory in the book, Bryn Athyn College look to continue their stellar performances in the second match.  While Rosemont College battled back in the first set of the second match with a 25-18 victory, the Lions responded in the second set, with a 25-12 triumph and were set back again with a 25-17 decision to the Ravens in the third set. The Lions were able to escape the Ravens' wrath in a wire-to-wire fourth set showdown, 26-24, and triumph with 15-10 win in the decisive fifth set. 

In the first match, Bryn Athyn College (2-1) dismantled Rosemont College (0-3) in the 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-17) sweep and was headlined by senior middle hitter Taylor Davis (Philadelphia, Pa.) who finished with 12 kills. Senior setter Catherine Kirk (Springfield, Pa.) had match-high 20 assists, while freshman outside hitter Alexis Juritsch (Schuylkill Haven, Pa.) paced the defense with nine digs. 

The second match became competitive as the Ravens were determined to close out the Lions in the fourth set. After the score had been tied, 24-24, on their comeback from a five-point deficit, 19-14, two errors by the Ravens allowed the Lions to tie the match at 2-2. In the decisive fifth set, the Lions never trailed throughout the affair, and it was freshman outside hitter Hannah Dewees (Bryn Athyn, pa.) who recovered from an error and sealed the deal with a kill that wrapped up the afternoon's result. 

The Ravens were led by junior outside hitter Morgan Rollins (Bridgeport, Conn.) with 21 kills and five digs. Junior middle blocker Leilani Naone-Carter (Magnolia, N.J.) finished with eight digs and team-high 41 assists. Her sister, freshman outside hitter Kealohilani Naone-Carter (Magnolia, N.J.), and senior outside hitter Maria Athanasiadis (Philadelphia, Pa.) paced the Ravens defense with 17 digs apiece.

Kirk dished out a game-high 49 assists along with eight digs and kills in her effort. Davis had 24 kills, two digs, and two assists in the afternoon. Dewees and Juritsch finished with 16 and 15 kills respectively to highlight the Lions' offense while Juritsch also notched game-high 24 digs on defense. 

The women's volleyball team travels to Penn State Brandywine on Thursday, September 8, for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
