Box Score

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Forward Shelby Puccio (Southampton, Pa./William Tennett) recorded her first career hat-trick to lead a strong offensive attack as the Bryn Athyn College women's soccer team opened 2017 with an 8-0 triumph over Carin University Friday afternoon on General Ronald K. Nelson Field.

Rachel McCabe (Southampton, Pa./William Tennett) started the season on the right foot as she scored the Lions' (1-0-0) first two goals of the year inside the opening 13 minutes.

On her first goal, Kristen White (Voorhees, N.J./Easterm) played McCabe free with a through ball on the right side of the penalty area. McCabe then beat Cairn keeper Kayla Heffer with a tight-angle shot that found the upper-left corner. McCabe made to 2-0 as she deposited the rebound of a Puccio shot into the center of the goal.

Bryn Athyn added two more goals before halftime to lead 4-0 at the half. Puccio broke free from the Highlander defense thanks to a long White pass and scored from the penalty spot. Janalene Phillips (Knoxville, Maryland/Brunswick) got into the scoring act on a breakaway after another White through ball.

Puccio completed her hat-trick at the 58:02 with a pair of breakaway goals just under four minutes apart. She was set free on her first goal of the half, second of the match, by McCabe at 54:05. The three-goal day was completed with an assist from Lyss Bosler (Fairless Hills, Pa./Bucks County Tech).

After assisting on three goals, White got into the scoring act as she stole the ball from a Cairn (0-1-0) defender and put it by an off-balance Heffer.

Phillips recorded the match's final goal, her second of the day, at 84:29. Bosler picked up her second assist as she got Phillips behind the Cairn backline with a low through ball.

Bryn Athyn keeper Allie Warren (Tower City, Pa./Lebanon Catholic) was untested for a majority of the match but did end up with five saves as she recorded the shutout. Heffer had six saves for Cairn.

The Lions welcome Rosemont to campus for a non-conference showdown on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 4 p.m.
