Men's lacrosse roll Cyclones in home opener

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn College men's lacrosse team won their home opener 10-6 over the visiting Centenary Cyclones.

Inside the Box Score How it Happened
  • The first half was tightly contested with neither team able to pull ahead by any significant margin. Tim Ragan got the scoring going just under the 15:00 marker of the first period to make it 1-0 in the favor of the Lions. Centenary answered with two goals of their own with 4:58 left in the first period and mid way through the second period from Andrew Marchese and Timothy Kaiser. The two goals put the Cyclones up 2-1. Ryan Ovecka would not wait long to answer the second goal of the Cyclones. The sophomore answered with a goal of his own 29 seconds later to knot the game up at two with 9:34 left in the half. The teams would play even the near end of the half. Coach Jack Crawford would use on of his timeouts with under 40 ticks to play and Tim Ragan scored a goal with eight seconds left to give the Lions a 3-2 advantage heading into the half.
  • The third period would begin much like the first half...dead even. It was not until the 6:45 mark of the third that the Lions hit a breakthrough with freshman Jamal White scoring to give the Lions a 4-2 lead and would eventually start a four goal run from the Lions. Joe Nugent would net two goals and Tim Ragan would contribute one goal in the run that spanned until the 13 minute marker of the fourth period. Lions led 7-2.  Timothy Kaiser got Centenary back on the board at the 12:02 mark to bring the the score 7-3. Bryn Athyn and Mike Haas would score the next two goals to put the game out of reach at 9-3 at the 4:48 mark. Centenary would attempt a furious rally scoring three of the last four goals in the game, but was not enough. Lions roll on to a 10-6 win to remain undefeated in the conference.
