Women's lacrosse secures the two seed in playoffs in thrilling overtime victory

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn women's lacrosse team won a thrilling overtime match against Wilson College to secure the two seed in the Colonial State Athletic Conference Championship Playoffs.
  • Paulina Storck scored the game winning goal in sudden death overtime off a free position shot with 1:20 left in OT. The goal was her second of the day
  • Payton Gormley and Nicole McCurdy chipped in two goals apiece. Gomrley added an assist. 
How it Happened
  • The game was a back and forth affair. In the first three minutes both teams scored. Wilson opened the scoring with a goal from Anna Gibson at the 27:45 mark, but Payton Gormley answered with a goal of her own 30 seconds later to knot the score at 1-1. Wilson would finish the half on a two goal run and carry a 3-1 lead into half time. 
  • Bryn Athyn would answer back in the second half to tie the game at 3-3 with two goals from Nicole McCurdy in the first 3:01 of the second half. The teams would play even until the 16:51 mark when the Phoenix would take a one goal lead after Anna Gibson would net a goal. Paige Renoylds extended the Wilson lead to 5-3 at the 10:12 mark. The Lions would not go away though. Payton Gormley and Paulina Storck would score two goals to tie the game at 5-5 in a 40 second span at the six minute mark. The game would finish regulation deadlocked at 5 a peice. 
  • In the ovetime period, Paulina Storck would secure the home playoff game and the win with her free position goal at the 1:20 mark of overtime giving Bryn Athyn the 6-5 win. 
Analysis
  • Bryn Athyn outshot Wilson 23-17
  • Lions held a +1 advantage in turnovers (22-21)
  • The Lions and the Phoenix were about even in ground balls with Bryn Athyn leaading by two 23-21.
For the Opposition
  • Wilson was led by Anna Gibson and Paige Renoylds who netted a hat trick and two goals respectively. 
  • Kyah Peifer logged 7 saves in goal
Notes
  • The senior class set the program record for wins by a class with 21 career wins with the victory over Wilson
  • The Lions secure the two seed in CSAC playoffs and will host Wilson College on Wednesday April 21, 2021 at 4:30 PM. 
  • The Lions finish the regular season at 4-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
