Men's Basketball loses heartbreaker in Chambersburg

Cannady Jr. becomes fourth player in program history to reach 1000 points

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team was narrowly defeated by Wilson on Wednesday, 74-65.

Inside the Box Score
  • Jamal Cannady Jr. totaled 22 points en route to breaking the 1000-point mark for his college career.
  • Will Little contributed 15 points and 4 rebounds in a solid secondary role.
  • Jaryn McCann filled the box score with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block and 2 steals.
  • Isaiah Cureton cashed in three 3-pointers made in an 11-point outing.

How it happened
  • This game was in Bryn Athyn's hands from the get-go. They jumped out to an early 14-8 lead and maintained it for the rest of the half.
  • The Lions staved off the opposition, maintaining 36-29 lead going into the break.
  • They continued to build on that lead early in the second half, establishing a commanding 49-33 lead with 14 minutes to go.
  • Credit to Wilson for chipping away; over the next nine minutes, the host Phoenix went from down 16 to up two.
  • Bryn Athyn refused to back down, but ultimately could not corral enough rebounds to seal the deal.
  • Wilson would go on to win 74-65.

Coach's Corner
"This game is a tough pill to swallow. I thought we had a great game plan and we executed it for about 30 minutes. We built a 16 point lead, and we struggled to match Wilson's second unit's intensity and they flipped the game. We now need some help to make playoffs, but it starts with a win on Saturday." - Head coach Sean Westerlund.

Notes
  • Both teams attempted exactly 62 field goals and made exactly six 3-pointers.
  • Cannady Jr. is the fastest player to 1000 points in program history, needing just 49 games to clear the mark.
  • Bryn Athyn is now 5-8 in CSAC play.
  • Wilson improves to 10-3 in conference.

Up Next
  • Bryn Athyn visits Cairn on Saturday, February 18th at 3pm.
    • To clinch a CSAC Championship Tournament berth, the Lions need a win AND one of Saint Elizabeth, Wilson or Keystone to lose.
