Men's Lacrosse takes Cairn to the brink before falling in the Conference Semifinal

LANGHORNE, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn College men's lacrosse team traveled up the road to Langhorne to take on the #2 seeded Cairn HIghlanders in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Semifinals last night. The game was a back and forth affair before the Lions fell by the score of 9-7.

How it happened
  • Cairn was the first to throw a punch with a goal 4 minutes into the game 
  • Joe Nugent and Nicholas Yi would go on a 3-0 goal run over the next 8 minutes to give the Lions a 3-1 lead
  • With under 2 minutes to play Cairn would close the first frame strong with two goals in 34 seconds
  • Cairn would take their first lead since the 11:03 mark in the first with a shot and goal by Jon Balsamo with 10:41 to play in the second
  • This quarter it was the Lions who finished the frame with a flurry of goals thanks to Joe Nugent who scored two goals in the frame to give the Lions a 5-4 lead headed into half
  • The third quarter was a difference maker. Cairn would dominate play for majority of the quarter outscoring the Lions 3-1
  • A goal by Ryan Ovecka was critical to bring the Lions within 1 as the third quarter closed with the Lions down 6-5
  • Cairn was the first to strike in the fourth to build a 7-5 advantage
  • Cairn would keep their two goal lead for the majority of the fourth
  • Joe Nugent would not be denied though as he scored with just under two minutes to go in the fourth off an assist from Jamal White. Score 7-6
  • 20 seconds later the Highlanders would put the game away with a man down goal
  • Final Score 9-7

  • Lions were outshot 34-25
  • Bryn Athyn won the turnover battle by 4 (31:27)
  • Cairn held a 13-7 advanatge in faceoffs
