Women's Lacrosse Competes in Inaugural Game Against Gwynedd-Mercy

Ambler, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's lacrosse team fell in their inaugural game to Gwynedd-Mercy 16-7, on a cold Thursday afternoon. 

Erika Hyatt led the Lions with three goals. Sierra Asplundh scored two goals. Haley Schmucker and Emma Gross notched a goal each.

Asplundh won the first draw control of the season, sprinted down the field and scored within 15 seconds of the game to put the Lions up 1-0. Schmucker capitalized on a Griffin foul, to score 45 seconds later to extend the Bryn Athyn lead 2-0.   Gwynedd Mercy scored five goals to take a 5-2 lead, before Erika Hyatt scored to chip away at the Griffin lead 5-3, with 19:24 left in the half.  The Griffins scored four more goals with 9:33 in the first. The Lions kept Gwynedd Mercy at bay and would score with 54 seconds left before the break, to trial 9-4.

Erika Hyatt started the second half scoring five minutes in.  The Griffins built their lead with two more goals with 19:32 left. Asplundh won the draw and scored ten seconds later to bring the game within five, 11-6.  Gwynedd Mercy scored five goals before the Lions ended the game with a goal with 53 seconds, scored by Gross.

Karla Hyatt made 13 saves in net for the Lions.

Head Coach Silverman expressed, "Even with the cold weather, we had a lot of fun competing together in our first game of the season. Gwynedd Mercy's talented team was a great first game for us because we learned a lot about ourselves and what we wanted to focus on. I was impressed with the team's communication, positive attitude and how they worked together in the second half. We are looking forward to our game this weekend game against Merchant Marine. "
