Box Score Bryn Athyn Pa- The Bryn Athyn College women's lacrosse team opened up their season hosting Mount St. Vincent. The Lions defeated the Dolphins 10-4.
The Lions got on the scored board first when Emma Gross scored an unassisted goal at the 21:06 mark. The Lions went up 2-0 after Miranda Hyatt scored an unassisted goal. After a foul by the Dolphins, the Lion's Gross scored from a free position shot, putting the Lions up 3-0. Jessica Phillip's goal made the score 4-0, with an assist from Gross. The Dolphins scored late in the half to make the halftime score 4-1.
The Mt. St. Vincent opened up the scoring in the second cutting the lead by half, 4-2. The Lions then outscored the Dolphins 5-0 led by three goals by Michelle Bedford. The Lions goalkeeper Anja Weisser secured the Lions lead with two great saves to close out the game. The Lions went on to defeat the Dolphins, 10-4 to start their season.
The Lions were led by Gross, with four goals and Bedford with three goals. The Lions goalkeeper Anja Weisser made four saves, with eight shots against.
Coach Roessler said of the victory, " Very proud of the effort that the entire team demonstrated today. We faced a strong Mt. St. Vincent team that was well coached and played hard. We feel fortunate to emerge with the win and feel that we have a terrific game plan to build on."
The Lions are 1-0 overall after the opening day victory. Led by second year Coach Denise Roessler the Lions look to build on the great start, when they host Centenary next Monday March 21st at 3:30 pm.
