Late Comeback Lifts Women's Lacrosse Over Lancaster Bible, 12-10

Lancaster, PA. – The Bryn Athyn College women's lacrosse team traveled to  Lancaster Bible on Friday afternoon in NEAC conference action. The Lions came from behind to pull off the 12-10 victory.

Bryn Athyn fell behind 1-0, early in the first half to the Chargers. Goals by Sabrina Colbridge and Michelle Bedford put the Lions up 2-1. The Chargers then scored three unanswered goals to go up 4-2, with 18 minutes left in the half. Colbridge got the Lions to within one when she took a pass from Alexa Kennedy and beat the Charger goalkeeper at the 17:06 mark. Both teams were held scoreless for the next six minutes till  Emma Gross scored an unassisted goal to tie the score 4-4 at 11:13.  Lancaster Bible answered with a goal 13 seconds later to retake a one-goal lead.  Bryn Athyn retied the game at 7:25 of a goal from Colbridge.  But the Chargers retook the lead with putting in two goals within 30 seconds at 7:10 and 6:59 in the period.  Gross would score at the three-minute mark on the man-up opportunity to bring the game within one, but the Chargers would end the half with a goal to take a two-goal lead into the break. 

The Lions came out roaring in the second half scoring two goals from Colbridge and Laura Clymer to tie the score 8-8 with 25:17 left in the game.  Bryn Athyn took the lead at the 21-minute mark when Michelle Bedford scored an unassisted goal to make the score 9-8 at the 21:26 mark. The Chargers then posted two goals of their own to take back the lead with less than eight minutes left in the game. The Lions then took control of the game, when Gross took a pass from Miranda Hyatt and beat the Chargers goalkeeper to tie the score at 10 with less than five minutes in the game. A minute later,  Bedford earned a free position shot and buried her opportunity to give the Lions the 11-10 lead. Clymer shut the door on the Chargers as she added a goal assisted by Marin Roth with 45 seconds left in the game.

Bryn Athyn was led by Colbridge with four goals. Gross and Bedford contributed to the win with three goals apiece. The Lions goalkeeper Anja Weisser was a wall in net for the Lions making 22 saves on 32 shots.

Coach Roessler expressed,'' I can't be more proud of our team's effort in today's win. They battled a very strong Lancaster Bible team for 60 minutes and our team's relentless effort got them the win today."

The Lions finish out their season as they travel to take on St. Elizabeth on Saturday, April 30th at 2:00 pm.
