BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - College President, Brian Blair and Interim Director of Athletics, Dr. Suzanne Nelson are pleased to announce that the Lions will be adding a new program to the College's sponsorship profile in the spring of 2022 with the addition of men's volleyball.
"The College is very excited to welcome men's volleyball to our campus," said Dr. Nelson. "Although the pandemic has greatly impacted athletic programs across the country this past year, we are continuing to look to the future to create opportunities for our students to have a dynamic and fulfilling collegiate experience with exciting new programs like this one."
"Having both a women's and a men's program will promote the growth and overall success of volleyball at the College. We look forward to joining the other CSAC schools who sponsor men's volleyball: Cairn, Saint Elizabeth, Wilson, Rosemont, and Valley Forge, said Dr. Nelson.
Dr. Nelson also announced that Dennis Hibbs, the current women's volleyball head coach, will serve as the new volleyball program's first head coach. Hibbs's women's program has seen great success on the court including four seasons with 9+ wins. In 2018, he led the women's volleyball team to its first CSAC playoff appearance in program history, and his teams have made two CSAC playoff semifinal appearances.
Coach Dennis Hibbs on being tabbed to lead the new program, "It's an honor and a privilege to be a part of this new chapter of Bryn Athyn Athletics. I am excited to continue the growth of men's volleyball in Division III athletics. I have no doubt this program will be a great fit for Bryn Athyn College, our student body, and the tremendously supportive Bryn Athyn Community."
Coach Hibbs has already started recruiting for his new team and will welcome his first class in the fall of 2021. The team is set to begin play in the 2021-22 season.
