BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - Our dear friend and Bryn Athyn College alumnus Cade Gurney passed away Sunday November 26 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Cade was a member of the Bryn Athyn College Lions Ice Hockey Program in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Cade, his brother Chad, and their father Glenn all played ice hockey for the Bryn Athyn College Lions. While he was still attending Bryn Athyn College, Cade joined the ANC Hockey coaching staff at the ANC Secondary School. Together with Travis McCurdy and Head Coach Glenn Gurney, Cade led ANC to two league championships in 2015 and 2016. Cade later became the Head Coach for the Boys' School team. He took those ANC boys and turned them into a family who cared for each other, worked hard together, and had each other's back. He showed those young men the value of brotherhood and the worth in supporting and committing to family.
Cade's passion for hockey was infectious.
Cade truly represented what it means to be an ANC and BAC hockey player. As a teammate and a coach, he never had a negative word for anyone. He spoke quietly, but when he talked everyone listened. His teammates and his players respected his knowledge of the game, and especially his wisdom as a man—one who knew how to play and live with integrity.
To honor Cade's legacy, the Gurney Family and ANC have established the "Cade Gurney Ice Hockey Fund." All donations made in Cade's honor will go to endow an annual award at ANC for a hockey player who displays Cade's traits and values.
