Anthony Burr sets all-time assist record in win

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team filled the record books in a dominant victory over Valley Forge, 113-72.

Inside the Box Score
  • Have a day, Anthony Burr: the senior guard set two Bryn Athyn records on Wednesday night with his 13 assists.
    • That is not only the most dimes by any Lion in a single game ever, but also was more than enough to set the all-time school record for career assists (305 and counting).
  • Isaiah Cureton flourished in his return to the starting lineup, drilling seven 3-pointers en route to 23 points.
  • Will Little had an efficient 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting.
  • Jamal Cannady Jr. poured in a supplementary 21 points.
  • Jaryn McCann recorded yet another double-double, this time getting to 16 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Jalen Cary was rock solid off the bench with 12 points on 4 made 3-pointers.
How it happened
  • Bryn Athyn started off down 0-4 and then down 5-6, but those were the only times they operated from a deficit.
  • The next two minutes saw the Lions go on a 15-0 run that was ultimately never countered.
  • At the midway point of the first, Bryn Athyn was up 38-14.
  • Valley Forge made a late push to close the half, narrowing the gap to 53-40 at the break.
  • Cannady Jr. took over in the second half, hitting shots in all types of ways to keep the Patriots at bay.
  • The game got out of hand soon after, allowing several lightly-used Lions to get feature minutes.
  • The Lions would go on to win 113-72.
Coach's Corner
"We were in desperate need for a win and we got one in a big way. I loved how we started fast. Anthony Burr was a big reason for that. Credit to him for setting the all time and single game assist record. No one is more deserving than he is. I loved how the ball moved and that showed with our 31 assists and 18 made three-pointers. We have the biggest game of the season on Saturday at home. We're on to the next one." Head Coach Sean Westerlund said.

Notes
  • Bryn Athyn made 18 three pointers overall, which ties program record for a single game (vs. Lancaster Bible College, 2/14/2017).
  • The Lions also had 31 total assists which was a season high.
  • The Lions forced 26 Patriot turnovers and were credited with 13 steals.
  • Bryn Athyn improves to 3-6 in CSAC play and 1 game out of a playoff spot.
