Men's basketball falls to Washington College on the road

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The men's basketball team traveled to Maryland on Saturday where they were defeated by Washington College, 61-47.

  • Jakir Hampton led the lions in points(12) assists (4) and  steals (3)
  • Malik Carson came off the bench with high energy by nabbing a team high 7 rebounds while adding 5 points. 
  • K'Mari Smith contributed 7 points and 4 rebounds as a spark off the bench. 
  • Bryce Spriggs stuffed the stat sheet by contributing at least 1 of each; points, steal, rebound, and block on the evening. 
  • Keith Bullock Jr. added 6 points and 3 rebounds. 
How it Happened
  • Washington College controlled the early part of the game, opening with an 16-2 run. 
  • Things got dicey the rest of the half as the Lions struggled to score.
  • In the last six minutes of the half,  Bryn Athyn went on a 11-2 run to cut into the lead. 
  • Washington College led at halftime, 27-15. 
  • Washington opened the second period on a 17-5 run to add onto the lead. 
  • Both teams continued to trade buckets and free throws. 
  • Bryn was unable to put a major dent in the lead as they went on to lose, 61-47.
Coach's Corner
  • "Credit to Washington on their win. They jumped on us in the first six minutes, and we couldn't cut the deficit from that point. That said, I believe we are turning a corner. Our offense desperately needs to improve, but I believe we're headed in the right direction as a program." - Head Coach Sean Westerlund

  • Bryn Athyn shot 28% from the field and 18% from 3-point range.
  • Lions also did not attempt free throws in the first half for the second game in a row. 75% in the second half. 
  • They are now 1-2 on the season.
