Lady Lions lock up 3 seed on Senior Day

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The women's basketball team escaped a trap game with a win, defeating Cedar Crest on Senior Day, 57-54.

Inside the Box Score
  • Zhymani Smith got whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted, en route to 22 points on 10 field goal makes.
  • Alayna Day stayed hot for 12 points, including two 3-pointers made.
  • Xion Spence stepped up in a big way for 16 rebounds.
How it Happened
  • An early 9-2 stretch by Bryn Athyn seemed to put the game out of reach, but Cedar Crest was quick to get back in it with nine straight points of their own.
  • The score was 16-15 after one.
  • The second quarter saw the Lions take initiative again, going up as much as eight, but the Falcons closed the gap once again.
  • At halftime, BAC was up 31-28 on CCC.
  • The second half was a rockfight. Neither team led by more than two in the third, and the only lead bigger than that in the fourth was Bryn Athyn's three-point lead as time expired.
  • Lions got exactly what they needed down the stretch from their big playmakers, as they dug out a 57-54 win.
Coach's Corner
  • "I'm really proud of our group and the way we battled to grind out a win on Senior Day! We are so proud of Kaylia Duncan and all that she has accomplished in her 5 years here. You saw that toughness and heart on display down the stretch and that was huge. I thought our rebounding and second chance points were a key factor in what was a down offensive day for us. Xion Spence came up big for us on the boards, and we came out with the victory at the end." - Head Coach Travis Ponton
Notes
  • Bryn Athyn out-rebounded Cedar Crest by nine, and got 19 second-chance points to CCC's 11. Additionally, BAC connected on just three 3-pointers. The game was won inside.
  • At 12-5, the Lions are all but guaranteed the 3 seed in the United East Skye Division Tournament.
