Women's Basketball's record run comes to a halt

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The women's basketball team went toe-to-toe with a powerhouse in the second round of the United East Conference Tournament on Monday.

Inside the Box Score How it Happened
  • A 10-4 start from Saint Elizabeth took the wind out of Bryn Athyn's sails initially.
  • Lions didn't waver though, scoring 8 of the next 10 points to get right back in it.
  • Zhymani Smith came alive in the second to lead the ladies, outscoring the Eagles by herself (8-5).
  • Bryn Athyn went into halftime up 26-18.
  • Out of the break, BAC scored five consecutive points to take what seemed to be a game-sealing 13-point lead.
  • However, Eagles outscored Lions 32-12 over the next 12 minutes to take command.
  • Bryn Athyn could not come back, and Saint Elizabeth went on to win by five.
Coach's Corner
  • "It was a tough way to end what has been another historic season for our program. We did a great job on the defensive end but had trouble finishing possessions with rebounds, against the number one offensive rebounding team in the country. That being said, we are super proud of our young women for once again raising our bar this season. There will be time to talk about the individual and team accolades in the coming days, and we look forward to that. Kaylia Duncan wrapped up what has been a monumental career here at Bryn Athyn. We are who we are because of the people we have in our program, and we look forward to what the future has in store." - Head Coach Travis Ponton
Notes
  • Bryn Athyn generated just 5 assists out of 20 made shots.
  • Three different Saint Elizabeth players corralled at least 10 rebounds.
  • At 17-8 overall, 13-5 in conference and 1-1 in postseason, 2023-24 marks the best season in Bryn Athyn Women's Basketball history.
