Box Score Bryn Athyn, Pa. - Bryn Athyn Women's Basketball team hit the floor for their inaugural game on Monday evening at Asplundh Field House. Coach Kayla Felty, first time head coach for the Lions, started with an all freshmen line up to face opponent Centenary (1-1).
Hajaaha Stevens and Brittany Vick led in tonight's match with 14 points each. Bianca Feliciano collected 10 rebounds, 7 points and 5 assists on the night.
The Cyclones initiated the game with a 14-4 run on the Lions. Stevens helped decreased the lead, by recording 11 points and 2 rebounds of her own in the first half. The Lions gained momentum going into intermission which was ignited by a three-point play led by Stevens. Cyclones finished on top in the first half 32-21.
Lions came out of half time with intensity, Vick led the charge scoring 14 points in the second. Bianca Feliciano created a dominating presence on the boards, and helped bring the Lions within 5 points at 10:25 in the game.
With three minutes left in the 2nd half the Lions closed the gap to a 2 point differential and caused the Cyclones to make 3 potentially game changing turnovers in a 40 second period. This however would be the Lion's last fight, and not enough to take down the Cyclones. The final score was 67-62.
Anja Weisser who scored 6 points of her own said, "We played hard tonight but came up short, we can't hang our heads because we tried our hardest. We have been working hard to for weeks and tonight was a good test for us. We will get back in the gym tomorrow and fix the mistakes so that were made so that we can come up with a win on Thursday."
Coach Felty expressed, "I am very proud of the way our team came together to battle back and never give up. Centenary is a very talented team and I knew it would be a hard fought game. I think we opened a lot of people's eyes to the great things that are to come from these ten freshmen."
The Lady Lions return to the hardwood in home action on Thursday night versus cross town rival Penn State Abington at 7:00 pm.
