Box Score Lancaster, Pa - The women's basketball team lose a tough one in their season opener at Lancaster Bible today, falling 74-66 in first NEAC game of the year.
The Lions found themselves down 18-0 in the first 3:33 second of the game. But after that, Kristina Clark was able to help chip away at the lead scoring 10 points in the quarter going 2 for3 from the field and shooting 100% from the free thow line, making 6 out of 6 attempts. The first quarter ended with the Lions trailing 27-12.
The second half saw the Lions turn things around dramatically. Baskets by Kristina Clark, Taylor Davis and Bianca Feliciano cut the lead to 9. Then as the Lions continued to cut into the Charger lead, Bianca Felciano was able to tie the score at 31 with a 3 pointer with 4:53 left remaining in the 2nd quarter. The teams continued to exchange baskets, but the Lions were not able to get the lead. The 2nd quarter ended with the Lions down 38-35. It was a great quarter of basketball for the Lions as they shot 60% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc. Most impressive, was the Lions dominated the boards out rebounding the Chargers 12-4.
The Lions finally took the lead early in the 3rd quarter when Je'La Watson made a steal and went in for the lay up to put the Lions up 39-38. The Lions were not able to hang on to the lead, as the Chargers went on a 10 point run mid way through the quarter. The third quarter ended with the Lions behind by 12, 59-47.
Both teams struggled offensively at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Chargers slowly continued to increase their lead throughout the quarter, not allowing the Lions to get any closer than 8 points, despite the 13 points Kristina Clark contributed in the quarter. The game ended with the Chargers handing the Lions their first loss of the season, 74-66.
The Lions were led in scoring by Kristina Clark with 29 points. Taylor Davis lead the Lions in rebounds with 7. The Lions shot 44.8% from the field and 75% from the free throw line.
The Lions are now 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Lions are back in action Wednesday December 9th, as they travel across town to play at Arcadia at 7:00pm.
