Box Score Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team had mid week action versus visiting PSU-Berks team. The NEAC competition started at 6pm.
The Lions started the first half on a 6-0 run in the first three minutes, led by Sydney LaBat with two jumpers. The Nittany Lions made their first basket at 14:40 of the first half. PSU Berks went on a 6-2 run to tie the game at 8-8 with less than 10 minutes of the half. With both teams tied at 12-12, the Nittany Lions took their first lead of a lay up at 8:10. LaBat answered with a three pointer 45 seconds later, to retake the Bryn Athyn lead. Later in the half Vick put the Lions up 23-22. Vick added three to the lead and Davis capitalized on the half with two more. PSU-Berks was able to sink a jumper from the left side of the point at the buzzer closing BAC's lead to three points. BAC led going to the locker-room 27-24.
In the first half, La Bat led the Lions with nine points. Davis led on the boards with six rebounds. Shanelle Koch led PSU-Berks with 13 total points and four rebounds. The Lions were able to pull in 26 rebounds and shot 36.1% from the field.
The BAC Lions were able to move the ball well, starting off the second half. They gained a lead of eight initially and then moved to a ten-point lead, La Bat reached for a steal and converted the layup. Following that play, La Bat and Clark went baseline to baseline for a bounce pass and score at 11:54. Upon Watson's re-entry to the game she found Vick in the key for a mid-range jumper going up 43-35 at 9:44.
PSU-Berks acquired four points, then BAC aggressively got a defensive stop and pushed the floor with a La Bat's deep jumper. PSU Berks responded with a drive and conversion of two free-throws and shortened the BAC lead to four points. PSU Berks put Schoennagle on the line and she put away both free throws. Watson picked up a steal and Schoenaggle, sunk a jumper extended the lead to eight. With Davis picking up a rebound La Bat drained a jumper of her own. PSU responded with a drive resulting in two points from the foul line.
At the five minute mark the Lions were up nine points 53-44 and Davis was put on the line and able to convert 1-2. The foul line was occupied for a good percentage of the time in the second with both teams finding foul trouble early in the second. Vick sank both foul shots but was followed by an unanswered four points for the Nittany Lions. Both teams called timeouts in the third minute to attempt to change momentum from fast drives down the court by both teams. Coming out of a Lions timeout, PSU was able to come up with a defensive stop. As the Nittany Lions moved down the court Davis, athletically, took away a shot for the Lions. BAC was unable to score and PSU came down for a contested layup. PSU moved within four. PSU picked up a steal off of the Lions and then was put to the line. PSU was unable to sink the first, BAC called a timeout in-between shots to regroup. They were unable to sink the second attempt. The Lions were able to outstand the PSU pressure to pick up a big conference win.
Coach Felty said this about her team's win, " Every win at this point of the season is big and we are happy to have accomplished that tonight. Taylor was a huge prescence inside for us tonight with her blocks and rebounding and Sydney has been doing a great job of distributing the ball and finding her teammates when they are open. We are excited for a big NEAC crossover weekend and hope to add two more wins to our record."
The Lions were led by Sydney La Bat with 15 points, Taylor Davis with 10 rebounds, and Kristina Clark with three steals. The Lions were 6-8 from the free point line and 25-74 from the field. The Lions advance to 6-11 on the season and 5-7 in NEAC play. They return to action this weekend against visiting SUNY-Cobleskill on Saturday.
