Box Score Bryn Athyn Pa – The Lions hosted St. Elizabeth in their second NEAC South Division match up of the season. The Lions again defeated the Eagles 66-52 on Tuesday night at Asplundh Field House to move to 4-1 in the NEAC South Division, 6-4 overall.
The opening minutes of the game it looked as the Eagles had figured out how to keep the Lions in check, going up 4-0. Then at the 6:52 mark, Samantha Hicks and Bianca Feliciano hit back to back three pointers to put the Lions up for the first time 9-4. The Eagles then made a ten point run taking a 17-10 lead with :31 left. A Robin McClinek lay-up stopped the Eagles run to make the score 17-12 to close out the first quarter.
The Lions down in the first quarter opened up the second with a full court press that resulted in two Eagles turnovers and 6 consecutive points by the Lions Kristina Clark, giving the Lions 18-17 lead. Both teams pressured the ball and exchanged baskets throughout the quarter. Kristina Clark off an assist from Sydney Mitchell closed out the quarter to secure the first half lead for the Lions 29-26.
The third quarter saw the Lions open a 5 point lead after Samantha Hicks jump shot, 35-30. The Eagles after two made lay ups came out with full court pressure that gave the Lions problems. The pressure allowed the Eagles to get back in the game and tie it up 40-40 after the Eagles Jasmine Poole lay-up. The Lions responded quickly when Samantha Hicks hit a jump shot and made two free throws to put the Lions back up by four, 44-40. Then with 0:11 left Kristina Clark made a lay up to keep the lead at four, closing out the quarter with the Lions leading 46-42.
Keanna Schoenaggle checked in at the beginning of the fourth and made an impact right away hitting a three pointer just 36 seconds into the quarter. This was a prelude of things to come for the Lions. With the Lions ahead 55-50, the Lions went on 8-0 run for the next 4:21. The run would seem to make the difference as the Lions held off the Eagles for their fourth conference victory of the year, 66-52.
The Lions were led by Kristina Clark with a game high 21 points and a game high 15 rebounds.
Samantha Hicks had one of her biggest games of the year with 16 points shooting 6-13 from the field.
Sam said after the game, " The beginning as pretty even but in the fourth quarter we put them away with our press and offense. We need to take this energy and bring it to the next games this week and go 3-0."
The Lions move to 4-1 in the conference and have a hold second place as they move into their next game. The Lions will host Wilson on Thursday January 14th at 8:00 pm at Asplundh Field House
