Lions move to 3-1 in the NEAC with 74-58 win over PSU Berks

Reading, Pa.- The women's basketball team defeated PSU Berks on the road 74-58 on Saturday afternoon moving to 3-1 in the NEAC South Division. 

The Lions came out roaring in the first quarter going up 8-2 after a Taylor Davis put back with 6:34 left. The Lions led by as many as 11 in the quarter until Berks was able to cut the lead to six, 19-13 at the end of the first. 

The Lions continued to hold onto the lead but Berks inched its way as close as 2 in a the first three minute span of the second quarter. With 3:03 left in the half, the Lions went on a 8-0 run to close out the half led by Kristina Clark with 4 of her 14 first half points. The Lions went into the half leading 37-23. 

The Lions started out the half on fire from beyond the arc with 2 three pointers by Keanna Schoennagle and Samantha Hicks making the score 43-26. The Lions increased the lead to 20 with 4:02 left in third on a lay up Robin McClinek. The Lions then again closed out a quarter with an 8-0 run increasing their lead to 26, 57-31. 

A Keanna Schoennagle jump shot and a Taylor Davis lay up in the first two minutes of the fourth increased the Lions lead to 28, 61-33. The Lions lead was never in jeopardy as the continued to hold off Berks and went on to the 74-58 victory.

The Lions had a dominating day on the boards, outrebounding Berks 66-26. The Lions were led by Kristina Clark with a team high 14 points and 17 rebounds. Taylor Davis had 10 points and 12 rebounds and Robin McClinek added 8 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lions move to 3-1 in the NEAC South Division and 5-4 overall. The Lions are back at home on Tuesday January 12th as they host second place St. Elizabeth at 7:00 pm in a conference game.
