After a 12-12 tie, Allison Gallagher knocked down a three pointer that help the Pride regain their lead, 15-12, but it was not long until a lay up by Clark and two made free throws by sophomore guard Samantha Hicks enabled the Lions to take their first lead of the game (16-14). In the second quarter, the Lions separated themselves from the Pride with their largest lead in the quarter, 36-28, on a jumper by senior guard Brittany Vick. Unfortunately the Pride were able to close the first half out on a 11-4 run that saw the Lions lead slim down to one (40-39) at intermission.

In the opening 15 seconds (9:45) of the third quarter, a three pointer by Madison Ireland regained the lead for the Prides (42-40). In the next six minutes, the Lions used balanced team attack that started with two free throws by Clark, a field goal by senior guard Je'la Watson and Clark, and back to back three pointers by Hicks and senior guardKeana Schoennagle. After two more free throws by Clark, junior guard Amber Farnholtz followed up with a jumper and the scoring spree finished with a lay up from Clark that capitalized an 18-7 run to help the Lions take the game's biggest lead (9), 58-49, with 3:37 left in the third quarter. Once again, the Pride was able to remain focused and close out the third quarter on a 11-3 run to slim the Lions' lead down to two (61-59).
