How It Happened:
Bryn Athyn College faced Gallaudet University for the second time in a week after a 64-50 victory last Tuesday, November 29 over the Bisons. This time around, the Lions continued their strong performance but had to overcome the Bisons' strong first half. The Lions rallied during the fourth quarter to recover from a slow start early and secured a 61-49 victory. The Lions remain perfect, 4-0, in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games.
In the first quarter, the Lions allowed three straight lay ups from the Bisons before senior guard Kristina Clark put the first point on the scoreboard on a free throw. After two more baskets from the Bisons, the Lions found themselves behind 9-1. From there, the lions used a 10-4 run to finished the quarter and cut the deficit to two.
At the end of the second quarter, the Lions trailed 23-21 and it was not until the opening third quarter on a jump shot by Samantha Hicks and a three pointer by Je'la Watson that gave the Lions their first lead of the game, 26-23. Another basket from Watson followed by a three pointer from senior guard Keana Schoennagle extended the Lions' advantage 31-23. The Bisons then scored the next eight points to even the contest at 31 apiece. The Bisons eventually close out the third quarter taking a 44-39 lead into the final stanza.
In the final period, the Lions wasted no time to get in attack mode and score 18 straight points for a commanding 57-44 lead. The Bisons did not get their first point until 0:32 when Jakkisha Smith knocked down a jumper. The Lions added four additional free throws and defeated the Bisons 61-49 for their fourth NEAC win of the year.
Lions' Top Performers
* Clark finished with a double-double on 10 points and tied her collegiate high with 18 rebounds. The last time she grabbed 18 rebounds was on February 15, 2015 at Cazenovia College.
* Hicks led four Lions in double digit scoring with 19 points. Watson and Schoennagle added 11 and 10 points respectively.
* Defensively, sophomore center Sarah Elizabeth Atunrase blocked 10 shots and freshman forward Amber Farnholtz grabbed 11 rebounds.
Bisons' Top Performers:
* Smith finished with game high 22 points
* Kelsey Hudson grabbed team high 13 rebounds.
Stats of the Game:
* Lions had 12 blocks while the Bisons had four.
* Bisons had 11 steals while the Lions had six .
* Lions out rebounded the Bisons 52-45.
