Hicks, Watson and Clark combined for 60 points in 89-78 win over Cazenovia

Bryn Athyn Pa- The Bryn Athyn women's basketball team hosted Cazenovia on Sunday afternoon at Asplundh Field House. The Lions defeated Cazenovia 89-78 to move to 12-6 in the NEAC.

The Lions were hoping to get back on track on Sunday after a tough loss to Morrisville State yesterday. The Lions and Wildcats battled to a 9-9 tie in the first four minutes. A Samantha Hicks three pointer gave the Lions a 12-9 lead. With the score 17-15 in favor of the Lions, the Lions went on a 11-0 run, all scored by Je'La Watson. A Je'La Watson crucial 4 point play was the key play during the run. Je'La made three, three pointers during the run as well. The Lions held a 28-18 lead at the end of the first. 

In the second the Lions defense would be the difference of keeping the Wildcats from cutting into their lead. Sarah Elizabeth Anturase led the defense for the Lions with 7 blocked shots in the quarter. A three pointer by Samantha Hicks with one second left gave the Lions 49-38 at the end of the half.

Samantha Hicks who had one of her better days shooting gave the Lions a 14 point lead at the 7:04 mark with a three pointer. The Lions extended their lead by 16 when Sarah Elizabeth Anturase made a lay up after an offensive rebound. The Lions led the Wildcats by 15 to end the third.

In the fourth the Lions would have have their largest lead of the day with 8:32 left, 71-52, after a Je'La Watson steal and lay up. The Lions then found themselves in foul trouble for the remainder of the game when Kristina Clark and Robin McClinek both fouled out. The Wildcats were able to make the game interesting, getting as close as 6 points, 82-76. The Lions were able to hold off the Wildcats with work at the free throw line, hitting 7 of 12 to hold on for the 89-78 victory.

Kristine Clark led the Lions with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Je'La Watson scored her season high 20 points, as did Samantha Hicks with her season high 19 points. Robin McClinek led the Lions with 14 rebounds and Sarah Elizabeth Anturase led the Lions with 7 blocks.

The Lions still have a hold on second place in the NEAC South with a record of 12-6. The Lions are back in action as they travel to Gallaudet Tuesday February 16th at 7:00pm.
