Box Score Washington DC - The women's basketball team played in the programs first ever post season tournament game at Gallaudet this evening. The Lions fell short to Gallaudet, 76-70.
The Lions were looking to get the programs first ever win in a post season tournament at Gallaudet. The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead after Robin McClinek finsihed off a three point play early. With the score 10-7 in favor of the Bison, after the Lions Kristina Clark made a lay up, Gallaudet went on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes. The Lions then went on a 9-2 run to close out the quarter to cut the lead to four, 21-17.
Je'la Watson cut the lead to one, 21-20, with a three pointer in the first 15 seconds of the second quarter. Gallaudet went on a 7-0 run until the Lions' Bianca Feliciano hit a three pointer made the score, 28-23 in favor of Gallaudet. The Bison went on another 6-0 run, then the Lions' Clark made a free throw and Sydney Mitchell made a lay up to make the score 39-26 in favor of Gallaudet.
The beginning of the third saw Gallaudet hold onto a pretty significant lead throughout the quarter. Gallaudet held a 15 point lead with 3:57 left in the quarter, when the Lions outscored Gallaudet 11-4 to close out the quarter. Watson led the Lions during the run with eight points, including three key free throws, with no time left on the clock.
The Lions opened up the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run capped by a Keanna Schoenaggle three pointer at the 7:14 mark to make the score, 54-52. Both teams exchanged baskets and with the score 56-55 in favor of Gallaudet, the Lions Keanna Schoenaggle hit another three pointer to give the Lions the lead 58-56. The Lions lost the lead and were behind 64-60, then Je'La Watson hit a three pointer to get the Lions to within one. Gallaudet responded with a lay up and Je'La Watson responded with lay up for the Lions making the score 66-65 Gallaudet. The Lions would not be to stop Gallaudet from that point. Gallaudet held on for the 76-70 win.
Bryn Athyn were led by Watson with 21 points, Clark with 18 points and 13 rebounds and Sarah Elizabeth Anturase led the team with 8 blocks.
The Lions end their 2015-16 season with an overall record of 15-11 and 13-7 in the conference. Coach Kayla Felty led the Lions to the programs first ever post season tournament appearance. The Lions' Clark scored her 1000th point during the season. Sarah Elizabeeth Anturase led the conference in blocks with 106 total and recorded the programs first ever triple double.
