Lions fall to PSU Abington 74-72 despite 38 points by Clark

Bryn Athyn Pa - The women's basketball team five game winning streak was halted by Penn State Abington despite 38 points by Kristina Clark. The Lions 74-72 loss moves them to 10-3 in the NEAC and 12-6 overall. 

The Lions started in the first, holding an edge over Abington throughout the quarter. The Lion's Samantha Hicks, seven points, and Kristina Clark, 8 points, led the charge for the Lions in the first. 

Abington battled back in the beginning of the second, taking a 24-23 lead after a Brittanay Keyes three pointer. The Lions went on 6-0 run capped by a Kristina Clark lay up. The Lions held a four point lead but fouls by the Lions allowed Abington to get back in the game and eventually taking a 40-38 lead into the half. 

Abington went on a 9-1 run to open up the third quarter. A Keanna Schoennagle three pointer cut the lead to four 54-50. The Lions were as close as three at one point, but Abington held a six point lead at the end of three, 59-53.

The Lions had not trailed going into a fourth quarter in several games. The Lions outscored Abington 7-4 in the first four minutes cutting the lead to three, 63-60. Abington hit a three pointer to extend the lead to six. The Lions Samantha Hicks answered with a three to cut the lead back to three, 66-63. A Sarah Elizabeth Antunrase lay up pulled the Lions to within one, 68-67. Abington would not allow the Lions to get any closer. The Lions Samantha Hicks made a three pointer with five seconds left to give the Lions a chance, again getting the Lions to within one, 73-72. The Lions had to foul and Abington's Mallory Mugnier hit 1 of 2 from the line, securing the victory for Abington. 

Kristina Clark led the Lions with 38 points and 5 rebounds. Samantha Hicks had one of her best games of the year with 15 points shooting 3 of 5 from three point range and 6 of 6 from the free throw line. 

The Lions are right back in action, as they travel to SUNY Cobleskill in NEAC play, Saturday February 6th.
