How It Happened
Bryn Athyn College trailed Penn State Abington majority of the first half with the Lions trailing by as many as 17 points (33-16) to the Nittany Lions. The second half proved to be a different story though, as the Lions outscored the visitors 26-11 in the third period. When Abington held their largest lead at 18 (45-27), Bryn Athyn went on a fierce 18-0 run to tie the game at 45 apiece with 2:49 remaining. Both teams traded leads the rest of the way, but it was the Lions that headed to the fourth period with a 53-51 advantage after three periods.
The Lions took their largest lead, 69-60 in the final period of regulation when Keana Schoennagle knocked down a three pointer, courtesy of Samantha Hicks. Abington crawled back and tied the game at 73-73 after going on a 13-4 run. With Bryn Athyn holding a 78-76 advantage with seven seconds left, Shayna Rodriguez send the game to over time after drilling a jumper for the Nittany Lions.
In the extra frame, after each team scored six points apiece, 84-84, Hicks and Allison Warren made two layups to put the Lions ahead 88-84. The Lions then would add seven more free throws to escape the Nittany Lions in a 95-87 finale.
Lions' Top Performers
* Kristina Clark, Hicks, and Warren all finished with a double-double.
* Clark finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds while Hicks had 14 points and 10 assists. Warren had 14 points and 10 rebounds.
* Sarah Elizabeth Atunrase grabbed game high 18 rebounds, including 11 on offense. She also scored eight points while recording game high seven blocks.
* Schoennagle finished with team high 23 points while knocking down 6-of-12 (50%) from long range.
Nittany Lions' Top Performers:
* Rodriguez led the Nittany Lions with game high 27 points while also grabbing 10 boards.
* Marah Hayes had 21 points and game high seven steals.
* Brittany Keyes and Symantha Marrero both scored 16 points each.
