Lever lifts men's ice hockey to 2-1 win over Chatham

Box Score

BRYN ATYHN, Pa. – Julion Lever scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season on the power play with 9:30 left in the third period to give the Bryn Athyn College men's ice hockey team a 2-1 victory over visiting Chatham University Saturday night in Junge Pavilion.

Lever stepped into a wrist shot at the right faceoff dot after receiving a cross-ice pass from Nikita Smirnov. Anthony Notorfrancesco played the puck back to Smirnov to pick up the secondary assist.

McKenzie did his part to make the Lever goal stand up as he made six of his 28 saves after Bryn Athyn (6-7-1) took the lead. Two of his saves came in the final 1:10 when Chatham (1-11-3) yanked goalie Trever Ralph in favor of an extra attacker.

The Lions' penalty killers were pressed into action early and often during the open 10 minutes of the first period. At the 1:43 mark of the period, Bryn Athyn was down to three players for 1:46 after back-to-back penalties. Then, Connor Devereux was assessed a five-minute major for boarding.  Bryn Athyn, led by seven saves from Chalmers, successfully killed off the seven minutes of penalty time to hold Chatham scoreless.

On a power play later in the period, Chatham would get on the board when Kevin Fees scored after collected the rebound of a Chalmers save off of the initial shot by Kirk Underwood at 18:07.

Alex Doyle leveled the game at one with 5:22 left in the second period as he redirected a Tanner Congdon shot from the left point past Ralph—who had 17 saves—for his fourth goal of the year. Lever was given the secondary assist.

Chatham outshot Bryn Athyn 29-19. The Lions were 2-for-8 on the man advantage, while the Cougars went 1-for-6.

Bryn Athyn returns to the ice to face SUNY Cortland on Sunday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. at Junge Pavilion.
