BRYN ATHYN, Pa. -- The Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team gave up a 12-5 run in the last 5:42 of the fourth quarter in a 58-51 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) loss to Penn State Abington Wednesday night in Asplundh Field House.

 

Bryn Athyn (5-11, 2-5 NEAC) was facing a game-high 11-point deficit when Penn State Abington's Brittany Keyes knocked down a 3-pointer at the 4:42 mark of the third quarter to make the score 41-30.

 

The Lions worked hard during the rest of the third quarter and the opening 3:15 of the fourth to erase the Nittany Lion advantage. Bryn Athyn, led by five of Zeniyah Sanders' eight points, ended the third on a 12-5 run to trim the gap to 46-42. The Lion defense played a big role allowing Bryn Athyn to tie the score as it forced Penn State Abington into 0-of-3 shooting and four turnovers. Sanders leveled the score at 46 with a 2-for-2 trip to the free throw line with 6:45 left in the game.

 

Then, Shayna Rodriguez--who had a game-high 23 points--started the game-altering run with two made free throws at the 5:42 mark. The Nittany Lions would push the gap to six with Angie Tabares sank a jumper with 3:01 to play to make it a 52-46 game. Bryn Athyn would get as close as five on multiple occasions down the stretch.

 

Clayshonia Cogmon gave the Lions a strong effort as she tied her career-high of 15 points and grabbed a career-best 19 rebounds--13 on the offensive end--for her fourth double-double of the season. Allie Warren added 15 points.

 

Iman Richmond also scored in double figures for Penn State Abington (9-6, 4-3 NEAC) with 10 points. Grace Dewey recorded 11 rebounds.

 

Penn State Abington shot 36.4 percent (20-of-55) from the field and 68.4 percent (13-of-19) at the free throw line. Bryn Athyn was shooting at a  25.4 percent (18-of-71) clip overall and made 72.2 percent (13-of-19) of its free throws.

 

The Lions tied their season low of 16 turnovers.

 

Bryn Athyn will host Lancaster Bible College in a NEAC contest to end its four-game homestand on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. in Asplundh Field House.
