Lions complete season sweep of Clarks Summit with 61-51 win

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Clayshonia Cogmon put up 25 points and 18 rebounds for the Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team to lead the Lions to a 61-51 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victory and season-sweep of Clarks Summit University Thursday night.

Cogmon—who became the third Lion to record double-figure double-doubles in a season with her career-high 10th this year—shot 9-of-15 from the floor as she posted back-to-back 20+-point games for the first time in her career.

Bryn Athyn (2-16, 2-8 CSAC) nearly led the game from start to finish. Clarks Summit (0-18, 0-10 CSAC) momentarily led the game when Randie Traxler drained a 3-pointer at the 7:53 mark of the first quarter to give the Defenders a 3-2 advantage.

Alisha McKnight answered back with a layup on the Lions' next possession to put Bryn Athyn back in front. The layup also sparked a 10-0 surge over the next seven minutes to move ahead 12-3 on two Cogmon free throws. Bryn Athyn's defense played a huge role in the run as the Lions forced Clarks Summit into 12 straight missed shots and one turnover.

With Clarks Summit back within four points (16-12), Bryn Athyn ran off 10 straight points to storm out to a half-high 26-12 lead on an Allie Warren jumper with 3:39 before halftime. Cogmon scored six her of 19 first-half points in the run. Clarks Summit went 0-for-6 shooting during the run.

The Lions ended a first half in which they shot 12-of-24 from the field leading at the break 31-18.

Bryn Athyn's lead fluctuated between 10 and 14 points for the early stages of the third quarter. Cogmon would extend the gap to 16 points with a putback of a Warren missed 3-pointer to make the score 42-26 at the 5:33 mark. Clarks Summit would get as close as 11 one minute later thanks to a Dani Mansberger triple. The Lions would end the quarter with a 47-33 lead.

Warren, who finished with 15 points, gave the Lions a game-high 17-point lead (50-33) with one of her three 3-pointers just 24 seconds into the final quarter. Clarks Summit made one final push to get back into the contest, using a 16-5 run to close the deficit to 55-49 with 4:57 left in the game. With the Lion lead sitting at 58-51, Cogmon went 1-for-2 at the free throw line and Alexis Mitchem nailed a jumper to allow the Lions to reestablish a 10-point lead to close out the game.

Mitchem tied her career-high of nine points and grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds.

Mansberger led Clarks Summit with 23 points, while Traxler had 19 points.

The Lions shot 43.1 percent (22-of-51) from the field, while holding the Defenders to 28.6 percent (18-of-63). Bryn Athyn also owned a 40-23 rebounding advantage.

Bryn Athyn hosts Cairn in a CSAC battle on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. Asplundh Field House.
