HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team fell to host Centenary (N.J.), 61-46, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest Wednesday night in the Reeves Center.
Clayshonia Cogmon was Bryn Athyn's top player in the contest with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Alisha McKnight added eight points and four rebounds. The trio of Kalie Soulsby, Treasure Baskerville, and Alexis Mitchem each contributed seven points.
The Lions (3-12, 2-6 CSAC) were strong in the opening 10 minutes, getting out to a 15-8 lead. Bryn Athyn shot 7-of-13 from the field, while forcing Centenary (8-5, 4-3 CSAC) into 2-of-15 shooting and five turnovers. The Lions took a game-high eight-point lead with 1:57 left in the quarter when Soulsby capped a 7-2 run with a 7-footer. McKnight scored five of the team's 13 points.
Centenary began the second quarter by outscoring Bryn Athyn 10-3 in the first 3:47 to level the score at 18. The offenses slowed down the rest of the way with Bryn Athyn winning the final 6:13 7-4, finished off by a Mitchem fast-break layup to lead 25-22 at the half. The Lions were 3-of-9 shooting and turned the ball over five times, while the Cyclones shot 2-of-4 and committed five turnovers.
Jayda Campbell made a fast-break layup at the 7:54 mark of the third quarter that allowed the Lions to reclaim a three-point lead (27-24). It would be the last time the Lions would lead as the Cyclones ran off six straight points to go in front 30-27. With the score tied at 32 after two good Baskerville free throws, Centenary scored eight of the next nine points to lead 40-33 with 1:29 remaining in the quarter.
Baskerville scored the first basket of the fourth at the 8:27 mark to bring the Lions within 42-38. Centenary, led by six of Taylor Bossert's game-high 15 points, answered right back by scoring consecutive points to widen the margin to 14 with 4:32 remaining.
Jessica McKenzie recorded 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for Centenary.
Centenary finished the game shooting 35.6 percent (21-of-59) and Bryn Athyn ended as a 33.9 percent (19-of-56) shooting team. The Cyclones won the rebounding battle 54-33.
Bryn Athyn returns to Asplundh Field House to face Rosemont in a CSAC contest on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m.
