Women's basketball works overtime to edge Rosemont 68-67

Box Score

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Kaylia Duncan made the go-ahead layup with 1:12 left overtime and Kalie Soulsby hit two free throws 38 seconds later to ice the Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team's 68-67 victory over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Rosemont in Asplundh Field House Saturday afternoon.

With the score level at 64, Allie Warren stole a Jamira Greene entry pass to get the ball back for Bryn Athyn (4-12, 3-6 CSAC). Then, Warren threw a pass into the left block for a wide-open Duncan who hit the easy bucket to cap an eight-point afternoon and put the Lions ahead 66-64.

After a 1-for-2 trip to the line for Rosemont's Angel Ricks that cut the gap to one, Soulsby missed an 8-footer but got fouled in the ensuing fight for the rebounds. Soulsby—who set career highs with 17 points and 13 rebounds—calmly hit the two free throws to increase the gap to 68-65 with 34 seconds to play.

Ricks would go to the line once again, this time going 2-for-2, to make it a 68-67 affair. The Ravens (5-10, 3-5 CSAC) would get one offensive possession with a chance for the win the Lion defense didn't allow a shot to get off before time expired.

In addition to Soulsby's first career double-double, Clayshonia Cogmon had 14 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals, while Alisha McKnight poured in 12 points.

After a sluggish opening quarter that saw the Lions trail 13-9, Bryn Athyn stepped on the gas in the second quarter—outscoring Rosemont 21-9—to lead 30-22 at the half. The Lions shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18), while holding the Ravens to 22.2 percent (4-of-18) shooting and forcing 10 turnovers. Duncan and McKnight led the Lion offense with six points each.

The momentum stayed with the Lions at the start of the third quarter as Bryn Athyn scored the first four points to take a game-high 12-point lead (34-22) 1:49 in on a Soulsby putback. Rosemont fought back with a 17-7 run, capped by a Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter jumper, to trim the Bryn Athyn advantage to 41-39. Alexis Mitchem and Soulsby both made baskets in the final minute of the quarter to push the margin back up to 45-39.

Bryn Atyn led by as many as eight (56-48) in the final quarter when Warren drilled a 3-pointer with 6:20 left in regulation. Rosemont ended the quarter on a 12-4 run to send the game to overtime tied at 60.

Naone-Carter finished with 22 points.

Bryn Athyn ended the contest shooting 36.1 percent (30-of-83), while Rosemont shot at a 30.1 percent (22-of-73) clip.

Bryn Athyn has a week off before facing Clarks Summit in a CSAC contest on Saturday, Jan. 25 in Asplundh Field House at 1 p.m.
