Women's basketball nipped by Cairn in final minute

Box Score

LANGHORNE, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team suffered a 59-55 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) setback to Cairn University Wednesday night.

Trailing 53-48 with 4:24 left in the contest, Bryn Athyn (5-17, 4-10 CSAC) needed just 52 seconds to get an Allie Warren 3-pointer and a pair of successful Kaylia Duncan free throws to level the score. However, the Lions wouldn't be able to maintain their momentum because Jana Goodman would put the Highlanders (2-21, 2-11 CSAC) 58-55 with a 3-point basket with 2:14 remaining.

After trading layups, Bryn Athyn forced a Cairn turnover with 17 seconds on the clock and earned a chance for a game-tying 3-pointer. Warren—who finished with 12 points—misfired on her 3-point attempt but Clayshonia Cogmon grabbed the offensive rebound to keep the possession alive. Treasure Baskerville missed her layup attempt and Cairn secured the rebound.

Duncan finished the game as Bryn Athyn's leading scorer with a career-high 13 points. Alisha McKnight contributed 10 points and five assists.

Cogmon had a strong night rebounding the basketball, tying her career high of 23 rebounds—14 on the offensive end. She had 23 boards earlier this season against Wilson on Jan. 7.

Duncan ran off seven straight points in a 1:45 span to give the Lions their largest lead of the night, 11-7 at the 5:10 mark. Bryn Athyn remained in the lead until Cairn tied the score at 18 39 seconds into the second quarter. The Lions went back in front on their next possession thanks to a pair of McKnight free throws. Cairn would go on to outscore Bryn Athyn 14-4 over the final 9:10 of the half to lead 32-24.

In the third quarter, Cairn extended its lead to a game-high nine points.

Dakota Hitchner had 11 points and nine rebounds to lead Cairn.

Bryn Athyn heads to Baltimore to take on Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
