BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team was defeated by Notre Dame (Md.), 80-55, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon in the MBK Sports Complex.
Kalie Soulsby topped the Lions (5-18, 4-12 CSAC) in scoring with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting and also grabbed seven rebounds. Alisha McKnight scored 10 points for the second straight game and tallied six assists.
Clayshonia Cogmon, Kaylia Duncan, and Treasure Baskerville all poured in nine points. In addition to her nine points, Cogmon had a game-high 13 rebounds.
Bryn Athyn climbed out on an early 5-0 hole with an 11-4 surge, capped by a Cogmon free throw with 5:07 left in the first quarter, to take an 11-9 lead. Now trailing 15-13, Duncan made two free throws and McKnight followed up with a layup 14 seconds later to put the Lions back in front 17-15 with 3:04 remaining.
The teams went back-and-forth trading the lead in the first four minutes of the second quarter. Bryn Athyn's final lead of the game came at the 6:13 mark when Duncan drained a 3-pointer to put the Lions ahead 26-25. The Gators (16-7, 12-4 CSAC) would end the quarter on a 12-4 run to lead 37-30 at the half.
Bryn Athyn used a fast start, scoring seven points in just over two minutes, to level the score at 37 on a Cogmon basket. However, momentum didn't stay with the Lions because the Gators would score 22 of the 30 points scored in the final seven minutes of the third to take a 59-45 advantage.
In the final quarter, Notre Dame 50.0 percent (9-of-18) from the field and held Bryn Athyn to 28.6 percent (4-of-14) as the Gators outscored the Lions 21-10.
The Gators had four players score in double figures, led by Ariana Alleyne's 22 points. Ayana Brim added 18 points.
Bryn Athyn is in Asplundh Field House for the final time this season on Wednesday, Feb. 29 when the Lions host Centenary (N.J.) in a CSAC battle at 6 p.m.
