Women's basketball defeated by Centenary (N.J.) on Senior Night

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College women's basketball team closed out its home slate with a tough 70-68 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) loss to visiting Centenary (N.J.) Wednesday night in Asplundh Field House.

Prior to the opening tip, the Lions honored senior guard Allie Warren and senior team manager Dakiyah Burgin.

Clayshonia Cogmon had an efficient night shooting the ball as she shot 8-of-9 from the field on her way to a season-high 21 points. She also grabbed 13 rebounds to complete her 11th double-double of the year. Kalie Soulsby had 11 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double.

Treasure Baskerville added 12 points in a reserve effort, while Warren contributed 11 points.

Bryn Athyn (5-19, 4-13 CSAC) owned a 66-62 advantage after Cogmon sunk a pair of free throws with 1:15 left in the contest. Then, Centenary (13-10, 9-8 CSAC) scored on three straight possessions while Bryn Athyn committed back-to-back turnovers over the next 48 scored to go in front 69-66.

After trading 1-for-2 trips at the free throw line, Bryn Athyn would be down 70-67 with the ball and a chance for the tie. Alisha McKnight was fouled 0.8 seconds left on the clock. McKnight made her first free throw and then successfully missed her second attempt. Soulsby grabbed the offensive board but was unable to fire up a shot before time ran out.

Bryn Athyn went on a 9-0 run at the beginning of the final quarter to erase an eight-point deficit and take a 56-55 lead, the Lions' first lead since 1-0, on a Cogmon 5-footer with seven minutes left. With the score level at 58, the Lions outscored the Cyclones 8-4 to move ahead 66-62.

Carmen Escano paced Centenary with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Taylor Bossert had 13 points, while Victoria Jacobs added 11 points.

The Cyclones shot 36.9 percent (24-of-65) from the field and the Lions made 35.6 percent (21-of-59) of its shots. Bryn Athyn won the rebounding battle, 44-43.

Bryn Athyn closes out the 2019-20 season with a trip to Rosemont for a CSAC clash on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.
