Box Score Bryn Athyn, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball defeated Lancaster Bible 76-60 in Wednesday night action. It was a tightly contested matchup, as both Bryn Athyn and Lancaster were coming off of a two game win streak.
Christian Rivera led the Lions with 17 points and nine rebounds, while going 8 for 10 from the field. Troy Steed added 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while going 6 for 11 from the field. Joseph Kehoe notched 12 points, going 4 for 8 from the three-point line.
During the first half, momentum switched back and forth between the Lions and the Chargers. Steed began the game with a field goal. He was fouled on the attempt and converted on the line. At 14:32, Lancaster Bible, down 15-11, called the first timeout of the game. Coming out of the timeout Rivera caused a steal and Steed converted on the pass from Rivera. The Chargers regained the lead at 10:50, following a Bryn Athyn turnover and Chargers' layup. Jeff Seigafuse tied the game at 6:38 with a jumper. The remainder of the half was tightly matched, as both teams stayed within four points of each other. Following the last possession in the half, the score was 38-37, with the Chargers on top. The Lions shot 44.4% from the field to Lancaster Bible's 39.4%. Rivera led in the first half with 10 points and three rebounds. Kehoe went 2-5 from the three-point line and vacuumed in three rebounds for himself.
Physicality and emotion were not missing from the second half, as each team found fouls early and caused turnovers for the opposing team. Kehoe started the second half blazing with a 3 pointer off of a Seigafuse assist. Steed gave the Lions their first lead since the half at 19:23 to 42-40. The Lions held the lead until 8:44, as the Chargers went up 53-52. A three pointer from Rivera put the Lions up 55-53 at the 7:36 mark. Momentum switched in favor of the Lions at 6:30, with a Boyer deep three. Kehoe followed this momentum by a draining another three. Steed gave the Lions another three pointer at 4:02.
The Lions shot 56.5% during the second half, going 13-23 from the field. The team held the Chargers to a 38.5 field goal percentage.
When asked what Coach Baxter said to his players at halftime he responded, "at halftime we had to reiterate the game plan. We did not execute the plan very well in the first half, but were able to execute the plan better in the second by stringing together stops, which allowed our team to get easy baskets."
Kehoe, a huge leader in tonight's match expressed, "I am extremely proud of the effort my teammates made in this big win. Tomorrow we plan to build on this win and prepare for the weekend tournament." Kehoe humbly stated in response to going 4-8 from the three-point line that, "I felt really confident about my shot tonight and plan to keep making it better."
Baxter also stated, "We did a good job sharing the ball tonight. All of our starters had double digit points."
The Lions head on the road to play in the Rotary Tournament Saturday, December 21st.
