Men's Basketball Tops Crosstown Rival Penn State Abington

Abington, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team topped crosstown rival Penn State Abington 80-75 in Wednesday night action.

Troy Steed and Jeff Seigafuse were the leading scorers for the Lions, each notching 18 points. Steed also tallied four rebounds and two blocks, while Seigafuse added seven rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Joseph Kehoe recorded 14 points, while going 4-6 from the three point line.

Bryn Athyn trailed in the early minutes of the first half, but kept the offensive pressure on the Nittany Lions, never allowing them to gain more than a six point lead. With 5:45 left in the half, Seigafuse tied the game at 32-32 with a three pointer. Momentum continued to switch back and forth between the two teams, as PSU-Abington notched a layup, and Christian Rivera answered with a layup of his own to tie the game at 34-34. At 4:48, Rivera was fouled during a defensive rebound, and went to the line. He converted 2-2 to give the Lions their first lead of the night, 36-34. A layup from Steed, followed by a Kehoe three pointer and a Kehoe layup, gave the Lions an eight point lead, 43-35. With :27 left in the half, PSU-Abington brought the game within four points and Bryn Athyn headed into the locker room at the break with a 45-41 lead.

The Lions kept the lead for the first 17 minutes of the second half, until a three-pointer from PSU-Abington tied the game at 71-71. A layup and a good free throw from the Nittany Lions put them on top 74-71. At 1:55, Steed converted 2-2 from the free throw line to bring the Lions within one. Twenty seconds later, Steed made a layup to regain the lead for Bryn Athyn. At 1:25, Steed notched another layup to give the Lions a 77-75 lead. With :06 left in regulation, Kehoe sealed the victory for the Lions, hitting a three pointer to win the game 80-75.

The Lions return to the court Saturday, January 25th to face Valley Forge Christian on the road. The game is slated for 3:00pm.
