Box Score Bryn Athyn, Pa.- The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team defeated Drew 86-82 in Tuesday night action.
Christian Rivera led the Lions going 11-19 from the field, and 1-2 from the three-point line, for a career high 29 points and 13 rebounds. Deion Boyer added 15 points and three assists, while Jeff Seigafuse notched 14 points, going 3-4 from arc. Adonis Rosario recorded eight points and five rebounds.
Momentum switched back and forth between the Rangers and the Lions. At 11:00, Joseph Kehoe hit a three pointer to bring the Lions within three at 23-20. At 9:07, Stephen Johnson went to the line and converted 2-2. One minute later, Johnson made a three-pointer to bring the Lions within three again. At 7:45, a steal by Johnson and a layup from Boyer brought Bryn Athyn within one. At 7:16, the Lions took the lead, as Bryn Athyn forced a turnover and Rivera recorded a layup. Drew regained the lead, but at 4:15, Johnson recorded a field goal to tie the game at 36-36. Rivera picked up a huge rebound and scored, giving the Lions a 38-36 lead. At :53, Rivera went to the line and converted 2-2 to take a 40-36 lead going into the break.
At 13:30 in the second, the Rangers and Lions found themselves tied again at 50-50. Rosario completed a field goal, was fouled, and went to the line to make a free throw and give the Lions a 53-50 lead. Rivera went to the line at 12:10 and converted 1-2 to take a 54-52 lead. Rivera and Seigafuse hit back-to-back threes to give the Lions a 60-52 lead. During the next two minutes of play, four different Bryn Athyn players went to the line, increasing the lead to 66-52. A Drew three pointer and two fouls on Bryn Athyn, followed by a Seigafuse layup and two more fouls on the Lions brought the game within one at 72-71. At 3:36, Rivera recorded a field goal to give the Lions a three-point lead. Rosario came up big with a block, to keep the lead for Bryn Athyn. Within the last minute of play, 10 different fouls were called, and free throws made by Seigafuse, Boyer, Kehoe, and Johnson were the deciding factor in the game. Bryn Athyn came out on top 86-82.
Head Coach Justin Baxter expressed, "Our guys did a great job of keeping their composure after a frantic start, getting back in the game after the end of the first half. In the second half, we were able to build a lead. It got a little dicey at the end, but our guys persevered and were able to make enough plays and foul shots to pull through in the end."
The Lions return to the court Thursday, January 9th to host Penn State Brandywine. The game is slated for 8:00pm.
