Box Score Salisbury, Md. – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team fell on the road to Valley Forge Christian in the consolation game of the Optimist Tournament held by Salisbury College.
Troy Steed led the Lions with 14 points and seven rebounds. Stephen Johnson scored 12 points, and went 4-7 from the three-point line. Austin Nyekan put in nine points and pulled back four rebounds. Nyekan was named to the All Tournament Team.
The Patriots got off to a quick 12-7 lead, after knocking down three 3-pointers. The Lions picked up their defensive efforts at the boards went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-12 lead with 12:27 left on the clock. Bryn Athyn built their lead to 31-22, led the Lions perimeter shooting. Valley Forge brought the game within two, going into the halftime 38-36.
Bryn Athyn built their lead to eight points 51-43, five minutes into the second half. The Patriots picked up their offensive pressure, to tie the game at 61-61 with 9:06 left on the clock. Both teams exchanged points to tie the game again at 66-66 with five minutes on the clock. The Patriots took advantage of a the Lions turnovers to take a three point lead but a three pointer from Nyekan tied the game for the third time at 71-71. With two minutes left, Valley Forge turned on the offensive pressure, to win the game 82-76.
Lions heads on the road to face Drew University this Thursday at 7:00 pm.
