Men's Basketball Picks Up First NEAC Win Against Gallaudet

Washington, D.C. – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team picked up their first NEAC conference win over Gallaudet 62-56 in Thursday night action.

Deion Boyer led the Lions with 23 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds. Jihaad Fluellen scored 12 points, and pulled back four rebounds.  Anthony Wallace put up nine points, three rebounds and one assist. 

Gallaudet scored two back-to-back three points to take a 6-0 lead four minutes into the game. A quick lay up by Troy Steed and a lay up from Boyer off a James Flagg steal brought the Lions with two, 6-4.  Austin Nyekan and Boyer made two back-to-back three pointers to take a 10-8 lead with 12 minutes left in the half.  The Lions capitalized on Bison fouls and to go on a 4-0 run to lead Gallaudet 18-14 with less than two minutes. The Bison's converted on two turnovers to take a two point lead 20-18 at the half. 

The Lions started the second half on a 6-0 run in the first three minutes, to retake the lead 24-20.  Bryn Athyn picked up their offense, scoring three, three pointers from outside of the arch to build their lead to 33-25 with 15 minutes left.  With a 11 point lead at the 11 minute mark, the Bison's went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 43 all with seven minutes in the game.  Both teams exchanged leads, but kept the game tied at 53 all with two minutes left.  Off a Gallaudet timeout, the Bison's take a quick two-point lead, but Boyer answered with a three pointer to give the Lions a one point lead.  Boyer adds to the lead with four free throws to win their first game of the season 62-56. 

Coach Justin Baxter expressed,"We as a staff are really excited for the players. This is a historic win for the college, the community, and the program. First NEAC win!  We can enjoy it tonight, but we have to get back at it tomorrow at practice because we have another good test on the road Saturday."
