Box Score CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Bryn Athyn men's basketball team lost a heartbreaking 83-80 game to host Wilson College in North Eastern Athletic Conference action.
The Lions found themselves down early in the first half 12-5 after a 9-0 Phoenix run. The Lions then were able to outscore the Phoenix 23-14 capped off by a three pointer by Devante Laws at the 4:37 mark to give the Lions the 28-26 lead. The Lions and Phoenix exchanged baskets for the remainder of the half, but the Phoenix were able to go into halftime with a 41-35 lead. Troy Steed came off the bench to the lead the Lions in scoring with 12 points.
The second half saw both teams go on scoring runs. The Phoenix used a 9-2 run to open up a 10 point lead, the Phoenix pushed the lead to 17 points at 61-44 with just over fourteen minutes remaining. The Lions answered with a 9-0 run finished off by a Rahim Washington jumper to cut the Phoenix lead to 61-53 with just over ten minutes to go. The Lions went on another 9-0 run to get back within 2 points at the 7:38 mark on a Troy Steed made jump shot. The Lions Christian Rivera knocked down a three and the game was tied at 65 with just under seven minutes to play. The Lions would push their lead to 3 points at 69-66 after Stephen Tucker made two free throws. Then a minute later the Phoenix would tie it back up with a three-pointer. A Rahim Washington jump shot would put the Lions back up by one, but the Phoenix hit their second three-pointer in a row, putting the hosts up 73-71 with 3:36 to play. The Lions would again take a 1 point lead with 1:22 left on a Troy Steed jump shot, but again another clutch three by Ian Frazier gave the Phoenix a 80-78 lead with just over 1 minute remaining. Troy Steed would tie the game for the Lions with a bucket at the 39 second mark, but that would be the final basket for the Lions. Free throws by Wynn and Adams of the Phoenix would put the game away as a desperation three by the Lions Nick Cereby was off line and the Phoenix held on for the 83-80 win.
The Lions were led by Troy Steed who scored a team high 24 points and 10 rebounds. Devante Laws scored 11 points and shot 3 of 7 from beyond the arc.
The Lions are back in action Saturday January 30th when they host Penn State Abington, 1:00 pm at Asplundh Field House.
