Mens basketball defeated late in the game by PSU Berks 83-78

Reading, Pa - The men's basketball team came up short today due to late surge by PSU Berks, falling 83-78 in NEAC game. 

The Lions were looking to get their first win overall today at PSU Berks. The Lions and Berks went back and forth in the beginning of the half. Midway through the first half, Nick Cereby gave the Lions a 22-21 lead on one of his 7 three pointers on the day. Both teams continued to keep the game close toward the end of the quarter. The Lions were able to pull away with under 2 minutes 38-33 led by the efforts of James Flagg with 4 of his 10 points on the day. 

The second half saw the Lions continue to increase their lead through the half, again led by the three point shooting of Nick Cereby, who put the Lions up by ten with 11:08 left in the game. After two made free throw by Troy Steed making the score 67-56 and a James Flagg lay up to give the Lions their largest lead of the game 69-56, the Lions looked to be on their way to their first win of the season. But a 4 minute 16-0 run by Berks led by Christian Burggraf who had a game high 27 points put Berks ahead 72-69. Berks never looked back from there and held on to defeat the Lions 83-78. 

Despite the Lions loss, Nick Cereby had a great day shooting 7 of 11 from beyond the arc, 8 of 14 from the field for a team high 25 points. Troy Steed also had a good day adding 20 points and 8 rebounds. 

The Lions are still looking to get their first win of the year as the get back to action on Thursday January 14th at 6:00 pm as they host Wilson in NEAC action.
