How It Happened:
The men's basketball team opened their 2016-2017 season today against Valley Forge University and dropped a 92-73 decision to the Patriots. The Lions enjoyed their only lead of the game on a three pointer by junior guard Austin Nyekan to begin the game. The lead did not last long as the Patriots' applied tough defense on the Lions while their offense started to click. Shooting 21-of-36 (61.1%) from the field, the Patriots were able to separate themselves from the Lions in the first half and led by as many as 29 points (49-20) on a fast break dunk from Austin Lobo with 1:15 left to until intermission. In the second half, the Lions drew many fouls from the Patriots to earn themselves 20 trips to the free throw line. But it was still not enough as the Patriots were able keep their flow on offense going despite the slight scoring advantage the Lions had, 45-40, and finished the game to earn their first win while the Lions opened the season with their first loss.

* Devante Laws, Nyekan, and Troy Steed finished with 14, 11, and 10 points respectively to represent the Lions in double digit scoring.
