How It Happened:
In a closely contested game, the first half featured two ties and nine lead changes as Bryn Athyn College and Haverford College faced off in a non-conference afternoon game. The Lions would lead by as many as five (11-6) on a free throw from senior guard Troy Steed (13:02). The Fords would take their first lead of the game after back-to-back long range shots. The Lions and the Fords would battle back and forth until a jumper by Joe Scibelli put the visitors ahead 24-23 (4:51). From there, the Fords started to chip away gradually and head into intermission with their largest lead of the game 35-26.
In the second half, with the game leaning toward Haverford College, the Lions simply would not go away. As the Fords held an eight point lead, 49-41 with 11:34 remaining to play, the Lions fought back with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to two points (51-49) on a jumper by Steed (9:08). Both teams continue to trade leads throughout the rest of the contest. It was Scibelli's lay up with 46 seconds left that put the Fords ahead one last time leading 66-65. Senior guard Deion Boyer then drew a foul from Grayson Roth 12 seconds later (0:34) and earned two additional points from charity stripe to put the Lions up 67-66. After a missed shot by the Fords, senior forward Stephan Tucker hauled down the rebound and was immediately fouled to go to the free throw line. After Tucker split 1-of-2 from the foul line to give the home team a 68-66 lead, the Fords and Lions used their final timeouts with 2.9 seconds left to play. Then it was a clutch play from Boyer who reacted quickly on an inbound pass to steal the ball and run the clock down for the Lion's first victory of the season.
