Men's Basketball Slipped Past Raptors in 72-71 Thriller

How It Happened:

Bryn Athyn College opened the contest up with a three pointer and a jumper from Stephan Tucker for an early 5-0 lead. Rutgers University- Camden responded back with two baskets followed by nine straight points from Elijah Robles to tie the contest at 13 apiece. Both teams battled back and forth throughout the remaining first half but it was the Raptors who held an advantage when Julian Martin hit a buzzer beater three point basket to take a 36-30 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, with the Lions trailing by as many as 10 points (56-46), a 12-2 run from Christian RiveraTroy Steed, and Austin Nyekan tied the contest at 58. Then Tucker split two free throws to regain the lead, 59-58 (6:07) for the Lions. The home team pushed the lead to four, 70-66, with 1:32 left before the Raptors connected on two free throws and a clutch play from Martin who stole the ball for a wide open lay up to tie the game up again at 70-70. After the Raptors split two free throws to go ahead 71-70, Deion Boyer dribbled full court for a fast break lay up and put the Lions back up again 72-71. In the final 2.5 seconds, the Lions used strong half court defense and held on for the win.

Lions' Top Performers

* Tucker led four Lions in double figure scoring with 18 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds, an assist, and three blocks.

* Rivera played his first game of the season and scored 16 points to go along with three rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

* Boyer and Steed added 13 and 10 points respectively.

Raptors' Top Performers:  

* Martin finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, and game high eight assists. 

* Robles had team high 15 points followed by Isaac Destin and Charlie Riccardi with 14 and 12 respectively.

Stats of the Game: 

* Lions force Raptors into 13 turnovers.

* Both teams made five steals each.

* Raptors had a 39-30 rebounding advantage over the Lions.

Next Game:  

Men's Basketball now heads into the break for the holidays. The Lions will ring in the new 2017 year with a 7:00 p.m. contest against Vaughn College on Wednesday January 4.
