Box Score CAMDEN, N.J. – Rahim Washington scored 21 of his career-high 27 points during the second half as the Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team held off Rutgers-Camden, 73-69, in the Athletic and Fitness Center Saturday afternoon.
Washington finished the game shooting 12-of-20 from the field and 3-of-3 at the free throw line. During the second half, Washington scored over half of Bryn Athyn's 40 points by hitting nine of his 12 shot attempts. He added four assists, three steals, and three rebounds.
Lamarr Crenshaw added 17 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, and grabbed eight rebounds. Crenshaw scored 13 points during the first half to play a key role in the Lions (6-3) leading 33-26 at the half.
The host Scarlet Raptors (2-6) got off to a fast second-half start, scoring eight of the half's first nine points over a 2:49 span to even the score 34. After Bryn Athyn reclaimed a four-point advantage (40-36), Rutgers-Camden went on an 11-2 run to open up a five-point lead of its own, 47-42.
Bryn Athyn chipped away at the Rutgers-Camden lead until Adonis Rosario—back in the Lion lineup after a two-game absence—nailed a jumper to knot the score at 55 with 6:56 left.
The Bryn Athyn momentum would be short-lived as Rutgers-Camden managed to go back up by four (63-59) over the next 2:34. With 2:22 remaining, Larry Stevenson III came up with one of the biggest plays of the game as he knocked down the second of his two 3-pointers to tie the score at 67. The triple also sparked the game-deciding 9-2 run.
Crenshaw put the Lions ahead 68-67 with a 1-for-2 trip to the free throw line with 1:04 remaining. After getting a defensive stop, Stevenson III hit a free throw 15 seconds later to extend the gap to 69-67. Then, James Flagg came up with a huge block of a potential game-tying layup on the Scarlet Raptors' next possession and Crenshaw grabbed the rebound. Washington broke the back of the Scarlet Raptors with a layup of his own with 24 seconds left to put the Lions up 71-67.
Trailing for a majority of the opening 10 minutes of the first half, Bryn Athyn would go on a 19-5 run, led by eight Crenshaw points, to go up by a game-high 11 points (32-21).
Vincent Anfield led Rutgers-Camden with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Isaac Destin and Anthony Harris added 14 points each.
Bryn Athyn travels to Division I NJIT for an exhibition contest on Friday, 22 at 3 p.m. in the Wellness and Events Center. The game will on ESPN3.
