Box Score BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Rahim Washington scored nine of his team-high 20 points in the final 3:11 to power the Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team past Gallaudet University, 76-70, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest Saturday afternoon in Asplundh Field House.
Trailing 66-65, Washington knocked down his second 3-pointer of the afternoon at the 3:11 mark of the second half to start a 9-2 run that put Bryn Athyn ahead 74-68. Washington recorded seven of the nine points, capped off by a free throw with 23 seconds left.
The Lions needed Washington's late heroics after the Bison erased Bryn Athyn's second-half high 10-point margin with a 13-2 surge to move ahead 66-65. Larry Stevenson III hit a pair of free throws to at 5:41 account for the two Bryn Athyn points. The Lions were 0-of-10 from the field shooting and turned the ball over five times.
Bryn Athyn used an early 18-3 run to open up an early 18-7 advantage and control the first half. Five different Lions got into the scoring act during the run, led by six Washington points. The Lions shot 7-for-10 from the field and forced the Bison to shoot 1-of-7 from the field and commit four turnovers.
With the advantage down to seven, Lamarr Crenshaw ran off six consecutive points, as part of a 19-point afternoon, to push the margin to a game-high 13 points (37-24) with 3:33 left in the half. Gallaudet scored the final 11 points of the opening half to cut the Bryn Athyn lead to 37-35 at the half.
Christian Rivera came off-the-bench to add 13 points in the victory.
Bryn Athyn extended its winning streak to four as it improves to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the NEAC. It is the team's first four-game winning streak since picking up four straight triumphs from Jan. 30 through Feb. 6, 2016.
Andy Cruz paced Gallaudet (2-7, 2-2 NEAC) with 25 points and 13 rebounds, both game highs. Noah Valencia has 16 points, while Jawaun Jackson added 14 points.
Bryn Athyn shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the field and 36.0 percent (9-of-25) from 3-point range. Gallaudet connected on 43.1 percent (28-of-65) of its shots, 25.0 percent (6-of-24) of its 3-pointers.
The Bison owned a 38-36 rebounding advantage.
Bryn Athyn will attempt to win five straight games for the first time in program history when it heads to Haverford College for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.
