Men's basketball falls late to Penn State Abington 74-70

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. -- The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team was outscored 7-0 in the final 2:20 of Wednesday night's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) matchup against Penn State Abington and fell to the visiting Nittany Lions, 74-70, in Asplundh Field House.
 
Bryn Athyn (7-9, 4-3 NEAC) was facing a 67-58 deficit with 5:33 left in the contest. Then, the Lions picked up some momentum and they would hit three of their four shots from the floor and four of their five free throw attempts to go on a 12-0 run to take a 70-67 lead.
 
The Lions had a balanced attack during the surge with five different players contributing. Jerome Staley started the run and Larry Stevenson III capped it by hitting 3-point baskets. In between the triples, Rahim Washington and Christian Rivera each made two free throws and Lamarr Crenshaw drained a layup.
 
After Stevenson III's go-ahead 3-pointer, Bryn Athyn went 0-for-3 from the field and committed one turnover in the last 2:20. Meanwhile, Penn State Abington went 3-for-4 from the field, including Terrance Reese's go-ahead layup with 1:10 remaining to make the score 71-70. Quinn DeNofa sealed the win for the Nittany Lions with a 1-for-2 trip to the line with 1.3 seconds left.
 
The contest was closely-contested as the score was tied on 10 occasions and Bryn Athyn and Penn State Abington swapped the lead 10 times. 
 
Bryn Athyn shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) from the field and 28.6 percent (8-of-26) from 3-point range. Penn State Abington made 44.8 percent (26-of-58) of its shots, 29.2 percent (7-of-24) of its 3-pointers. At the free throw line, Penn State Abington was 15-of-23, while Bryn Athyn was 8-of-13.
 
Crenshaw paced Bryn Athyn with a game-high 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting, nine rebounds, and three steals. Stevenson III knocked down five 3-pointers on his way to a 17-point night. Washington finished up with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
 
The Nittany Lions had three players in double figures, led by Pernell Ghee's 14 points. DeNofa had 13 points, while Reese came off-the-bench to added 12 points.
 
Bryn Athyn will close out its four-game homestand with a NEAC showdown against Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. in Asplundh Field House.
