Washington hits seven 3-pointers in 98-80 loss to Wilson

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. -- Rahim Washington poured in a game-high 28 points for the Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team in a 98-80 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) home loss to Wilson College Wednesday night in Asplundh Field House.
 
Washington put together his second-best point total of the season by shooting 10-of-21 from the field, including a career-high seven 3-pointers on 12 attempts. He finished four points shy of his career high of 32 points which came on Jan. 5 against Penn State Brandywine. Washington--who also added a team-high seven rebounds and five rebounds--is the first Lion to make seven threes in a game since Luis Martinez went 7-of-13 from behind the arc in a 92-80 win over Penn College on Feb. 20, 2016.
 
Christian Rivera contributed 13 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Larry Stevenson III recorded 11 points.
 
The two teams came out of the gates firing by making 3-pointers on each of their first two possessions of the game. Then, Wilson (13-6, 7-3 NEAC) ran off five straight points to take an 11-6 lead on Zachary Powell's third 3-pointer in the opening 4:08.
 
Bryn Athyn (7-13, 4-7 NEAC) bounced back with seven of the next nine points, capped off by a Drew Heller 3-pointer, to even the score at 13 at the 14:38 mark. The next six minutes belonged to the Phoenix as Wilson outscored the Lions 19-9 over that span to open up its first double-digit lead of the game at 32-22.
 
Trailing 44-33, the Lions got back-to-back 3-pointers from Washington and Heller to claw back within 44-39 with 1:50 left in the first half. Wilson ended the half by scoring seven of the last 11 points to widen the gap to 51-43.
 
Both squads had a tremendous half shooting the ball in the first half. Wilson shot 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the field, 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from 3-point range. Meanwhile, Bryn Athyn connected on 53.1 percent (17-of-32) of its shots, including 56.3 percent (9-of-16) of its 3-pointers.
 
Wilson's momentum carried over to the second half as the Phoenix scored the 12 points to extend the lead to 63-43 with 3:13 gone. The Phoenix lead hit 22 points (84-62) at the 7:54 mark of the half. 
 
The Phoenix had all five starters scoring in double figures, led by Keion Adams' 22 points. Willie McDowell added 13 points and 11 assists, while Powell ended up with 13 points.
 
Bryn Athyn finished the game shooting 47.6 percent (30-of-63) from the floor and a season-best 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from 3-point range. Wilson 54.4 percent (37-of-68) overall, 48.6 percent (18-of-37) from behind the arc.
 
Bryn Athyn begins a string of three straight road games with a trip to Penn College on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m.
