Late rally sinks men's basketball in loss to Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – The Bryn Athyn College men's basketball team held a three-point lead with just over two minutes to go, but then Clarks Summit went on a game-ending 7-0 run to hand the Lions a 75-71 loss in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener in Huckaby Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The Lions took a 71-68 lead when Haybert Louchie scored the last of his 12 points with 2:12 left in the contest by hitting a pair of free throws. On the ensuing Clarks Summit (1-7, 1-0 CSAC) possession grabbed two offensive rebounds before Donovan McCrae knocked down the game-tying 3-pointer.

Bryn Athyn's leading scorer Tariq Moore, who had 23 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and four steals, went to the free throw line with 23 seconds remaining but missed both free throws, keeping the game tied. Seven seconds later, the Defenders' Keith Hammond drove through the Lion defense and drained the go-ahead lay-up to make the score 73-71. Anthony Burr missed a 3-pointer from the right wing on Bryn Athyn's final possession of the contest.

Okoye Taylor and Kiaeem Comegys both added 10 points for the Lions. The 10 points for Comegys, who also had four rebounds and four steals, are a career-high.

Marcus Dixon topped Clarks Summit in scoring with 19 points, while Anthony Gathings added 11 points.

Clarks Summit shot 56.9 percent (29-of-51) from the field and Bryn Athyn shot 41.3 percent (26-of-63). Bryn Athyn won the rebounding battle 30-29.

The Defenders took a game-high four-point lead (10-6) at the 16:53 mark of the opening half. Bryn Athyn responded by going on a 10-3 run to move ahead 16-13 on a Comegys dunk. A Moore jumper with 10:18 remaining extended the Bryn Athyn advantage to 22-16.

With the lead down to 35-30, Moore converted a four-point play with 33 seconds left in the half to widen the margin to a half-high nine points (40-31). Taylor opened the second half by hitting a 3-pointer to give the Lions a 43-33 advantage, Bryn Athyn's largest lead of the day.

Bryn Athyn (0-6, 0-1 CSAC) returns to Asplundh Field House to host Keystone in a CSAC contest on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m.
